Wild spirit. Captured soul. Awakened human. Adventurous creative.
Raquel Z. Duarte
Raquel Z. Duarte was born in the beautiful Rose City of Portland, Oregon. She learned to read at a very young age and soon discovered a love for writing. She started a blog as an outlet for her random musings in 2013, which later relaunched as an official website – itsjustraquel.com. She toyed with the idea of writing a book but wasn’t sure what genre she should write in. Not long after, she was introduced to poetry and prose through the writings of Tyler Knott Gregson, Atticus, and Rudy Francisco. So she decided to try her hand at it and in 2017, published her debut paperback, a compilation of poems that she had written over the course of two years, and called it Pluviophile. In March of 2019, she released her second book, Are My Eyes Still Tame?, which was extremely well-received by her fan base.
After a year and a half of healing and self-development, Raquel released her third book — a creative non-fiction compilation of personal thoughts on subject matters such as life experience, heart break, loss, and ultimately, personal healing. It is also a collaboration with Portland-based photographer, Robert Edwardsen (@robbyzabala).
Readers have labeled her writings with adjectives such as awake, real, and passionate.
Unapologetically raw, Raquel always hopes that readers will find relatable truths in her words, and know that they are not alone in the significant things they have experienced in life. Her goal is to always make her readers feel an emotion, and if anything she writes causes them to, her writer’s heart is honored.
